“MY SPORTS STORY”: AKBAYAN NURMAMET — THE ROAD TO SUCCESS IN ATHLETICS
Master of Sports in athletics Akbayan Nurmamet shared her professional journey, achievements, the challenges she has overcome, and encouraged young people to engage more actively in sports.
According to her, her interest in sports began at an early age due to the influence of her family environment — Akbayan’s father practiced several sports, including athletics. By the age of 13, she had already developed a strong interest in running disciplines. Her first training sessions played a key role in shaping her future professional path.
“After my first running exercises, I felt so good that my desire to pursue sports only grew stronger,” she noted.
In 2024, the athlete suffered a serious knee injury, which forced her to take a one-and-a-half-year break from her career and miss a number of major competitions. However, thanks to the support of her coaches and a well-structured rehabilitation program, she was able to recover and return to high-level sports.
“Athletics teaches endurance and patience. These qualities helped me not to give up during a difficult period,” emphasized Nurmamet.
She pointed out that an athlete’s training should include not only physical preparation, but also psychological resilience, especially when facing climate challenges and competitive pressure.
The year 2023 became a milestone in Akbayan’s career: she won a bronze medal at the Asian Championship in Astana and was awarded the honorary title of “Master of Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.”
“This achievement was the result of many years of hard work and brought joy to my family and coaching team,” the athlete shared.
Akbayan expressed her gratitude to her family, friends, coaches, and fans for their constant support, which, in her words, inspires her to keep moving forward.
“Even if my loved ones can't be physically present at competitions, their support through live broadcasts and messages feels like they’re right there with me,” she said.
She also noted that balancing professional sports with studies is no easy task. However, effective time management allows her to succeed in both areas.
Today, Akbayan Nurmamet has returned to active competition and is setting new goals for athletic achievements.
In conclusion, she addressed young people with a message encouraging them to take interest in athletics:
“Athletics is not only about health — it’s a school of character. This sport helps build discipline, willpower, and resilience, which are essential not only on the track but also in life.”
