AN ARROW TOWARD A DREAM: THE ATHLETIC JOURNEY OF RAIYMBEK MAIKIBAYEV

Raiymbek Maikibayev is a young and promising athlete representing the Olympic Training Center “Astana” in the discipline of archery.

His journey in sports began thanks to his older brother, who once took him to a training session. At the time, Raiymbek thought he wouldn’t stay long in the sport—he’d give it a try and move on. But things turned out differently: fr om the very first session, archery captivated him and became an important part of his life.

He began training professionally at the age of 12. From that moment on, sport became more than just a hobby—it became a way of life. Raiymbek is especially drawn to the training process itself, wh ere he fully immerses himself and finds inspiration. His hard work paid off, and he began showing excellent results at various competitions.

One of the most challenging aspects of his journey has been managing stress and pressure during competitions. But he has been able to overcome this thanks to the support of his coaches, family, loved ones, and of course, his team. Over the years, this team has become like a second family to him—built on mutual understanding and trust.

For Raiymbek, preparing for competitions is a serious and multi-layered process. It starts with intensive physical training, followed by mental conditioning with a psychologist. The final stage involves working with his coach, who helps him focus and approach the start line with confidence and belief in victory.

Among his most significant achievements to date are first place in the team mixed category at the Kazakhstan Championship and a champion title at an international tournament in both individual and team events. These victories have become key milestones in his sports career.

A special place in Raiymbek’s life is held by his coach, Bauyrzhan Sagimbayevich. Raiymbek speaks of him with great respect and warmth—as someone who not only performs his professional duties but also puts his heart into every athlete. He is always there to motivate, support, and help overcome challenges. Thanks to his efforts, the team is provided with everything they need, including top-quality sports equipment.

Raiymbek also expresses deep gratitude to his parents, who have supported him in his athletic journey from the very beginning. Their support has been both emotional and financial, creating the opportunity for him to pursue what he loves. According to Raiymbek, this plays a major role in his success.

Despite his busy schedule, Raiymbek strives to balance sport with his studies. It isn’t always easy, but he believes that with determination and the right priorities, anything is possible.

Today, his main goal is to compete at the World Archery Championship, which will be held in Canada. He aims to deliver his best performance—and in the future, he dreams of representing Kazakhstan at the Olympic Games.
