Cyclists prepare for international competitions
05.07.2024
Currently, athletes from the junior track-tempo department of the Astana Olympic Training Center are undergoing a training camp on special physical training before international competitions. These training camps are a key stage for each participant, as they allow them to improve their physical fitness and hone their skills before important competitions. The training camps take place from June 28 to July 13, 2024 in the city of Talgar (Almaty region). They involve 6 cyclists, as well as a trainer and mechanic.
Track tempo is a cycling discipline in which riders compete on a track, a specially constructed track with banked turns. Cycling tracks come in many types, but the most common are 250-meter-long tracks made of wood or concrete, with steep turns and straight sections. Track cycling requires athletes to have high endurance, excellent coordination and the ability to maintain high speed throughout the entire distance.
The special features of the track-tempo track are that it provides maximum wheel grip at high speeds and minimizes speed loss on corners. Banked turns allow cyclists to negotiate turns with minimal loss of speed, which is especially important in time trials. The specifics of the cycling track also require riders not only to be physically prepared, but also to be able to strategically plan the race, calculate strength and correctly distribute energy at all stages of the distance.
These training camps will help young athletes not only improve their physical and technical skills, but also gain the necessary experience for successful performance at international competitions.
