About the oldest sport - rowing boat racing in ancient Egypt on the Nile, early information dates back to the 25th century BC. Subsequently, similar competitions were held in ancient Rome. From the beginning of the 13th century in England, small boats and barges were intensively used to transport passengers and goods across the Thames; in the 16th century, carriers, whose number reached more than 40 thousand people, organized races. The oldest rowing competition in the world was organized by the English actor Thomas Dodget, which took place in 1715. The first known regatta - a sporting event from a series of rowing, sailing or motor boat races on the Thames - took place in 1775. After the annual competition, which competed athletes from two famous universities from Oxford and Cambridge, the birth of academic rowing (hence the name) took place.

The first championship of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics took place in 1925 in Leningrad. The All-Union Spartakiad, which included rowing, was held in 1928 in Moscow with the participation of more than 7 thousand athletes from all the republics of the Soviet Union.

At the Olympics, rowing was introduced for the first time; in 1900 in the capital of France, Paris . Until 1976, only men participated in Olympic rowing regattas. In Montreal, at the Games of the XXI Olympiad, women took to the Olympic track for the first time. They play 6 out of 14 sets of medals.

The Englishman Steve Redgrave is the "absolute" Olympic champion among rowers, he won the Olympic Games 5 times (in 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000) and became the world champion 7 times.

The rules in rowing regulate the weight of athletes. For women, the maximum weight is 59 kg, but the average weight of the crew members is 57 kg, and 72.5 kg for men, 70 kg is the average weight for the crew.

Rowing in Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, rowing originated in Temirtau in 1960. In the subsequent period, rowing actively developed in 6 cities of the country: Temirtau, Shymkent, Pavlodar, Zhezkazgan, Tselinograd and Uralsk.

In Kazakhstan, the above-mentioned sport is developing and evidence of this is the fact that the participation of domestic athletes in championships, world cups has become the norm and all major international rowing competitions do not take place without the participation of athletes from our republic. More than 100 athletes from different regions of the country compete at the national rowing championships, many of which, achieving high results, represent the country in the international arena. The domestic team has made a big breakthrough in recent years, the piggy bank of domestic athletes has numerous victories in the Asian and world championships. In Asia, our athletes are considered among the best sports teams.

The national team of the Republic is represented by the leading athletes of sports schools of the Olympic reserve in water sports. Athletes from Kazakhstan entered the top ten in the world at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and 2016 in Brazil. At the Olympic Games in the capital of Japan, Tokyo, which started on July 23, 2021, our compatriot Vladislav Yakovlev took an honorable third place in the preliminary race in rowing.

The state pays special attention to the material base of sports, including in the regionsmodern rowing training bases. A new rowing canal is being built in the city of Turkestan, which will meet all Olympic standards, according to the project, the sports facility has no analogues in the country, it will be located on an area of ​​100 hectares, the total length of the canal will be 2222 meters, the depth is 4 meters, the width of the main channel is 125 meters , return - 75 meters. The sports complex is designed for 1000 spectators and will house sports and playgrounds, a water park, children's attractions and other facilities for the development of popular water and beach sports. With the implementation of this large-scale project, it will become possible to hold major international high-level competitions in all types of rowing and, undoubtedly, the launch of the facility will give an additional impetus to the development of rowing sports,
